The vibrant and attention-grabbing centrepiece was crafted around 1980 by Asprey London, the world-famous firm of goldsmiths, silversmiths and jewellers who produced pieces for British royalty since the late 19th century.
The large, central bowl is expertly carved from the vibrant lapis lazuli. The semi-precious stone, a symbol of wisdom, is of a semi-circular form, which narrows towards the base. Naturally occurring white, navy, and cream patterns decorate the bowl all around adding an exciting feature to Asprey’s work of art. The lip of the bowl is framed in a silver gilt border.
The central, ultramarine bowl is flanked by two shining silver gilt horses, acting as ornamentation but also as handles. Each animal is standing on its two back legs, in a pose suggesting they are ready to gallop ahead. The intricate details on the sculptures enable to observer to notice small details such as the horse’s muscles or hair texture and are a testament to the impressive skillset of its makers.
The piece stands on a refined silver-gilt base to which the two horses are attached. The ‘Asprey’ mark of authenticity is proudly presented on the base of the lapis lazuli bowl. The silver gilt base is fully hallmarked.
The prominent equestrian theme paired with the deep symbolic meanings of the lapis lazuli ensures that this centrepiece is guaranteed to catch one’s attention and add a touch of grandeur to an interior space.
