Description

This exceptional three-piece silver mounted Sèvres style porcelain garniture by Tétard Frères is comprised of a central jardinière and a pair of flanking candelabra.

The white-ground porcelain body of the jardinière is raised on a waisted porcelain socle above a square porcelain base, the porcelain of the socle and base parcel gilt and beautifully painted with stylised polychrome floral elements. The square base sits above a silver mount, which issues four scrolled foliate silver feet and is ornamented with empty cartouches to the centre, the silver throughout exceptionally finely finished.

The oblong body of the jardinière is mounted on its belly with silver, the silver finished with scallop shell and acanthus leaf forms, and is set along its rim with a remarkably detailed encompassing silver mount, the surface of the silver textured and twisted into a variety of foliate forms. The body of the jardinière features twin ‘handles’, the handles crafted from porcelain and formed into beautifully painted acanthus leaves.

The front of the jardinière is painted with a Rococo style scene of courtly life and love—a fête galante—in a beautifully detailed and refined manner. To the reverse, the body of the jardinière is painted with assemblages of flowers and sprays. The neck of the jardinière features the same charming abstracted floral pattern that decorates the socle below.

The pair of flanking candelabra is similarly decorated, each standing on a similar silver mounted porcelain base, while the body of each is formed and decorated in a similar manner to that of the jardinière. Each candelabrum issues six silver lights in two tiers, the silver branches imitating scrolling foliage.

The painted scenes are signed ‘L. Leber’ and the pieces feature underglaze blue marks to their undersides to indicate Sèvres. The silver throughout is fully hallmarked.
