Set of four Neoclassical Chiavari style brass chairs
£7,500
These elegant chairs are delicately modelled in the Chiavari style, named after the Italian city of Chiavari where this style of chair design originated in 1807.
The four chairs in this group have been formed with thin brass structures, making them lightweight and extremely graceful. The front legs are straight, whilst the rear legs gently curve and lead to the backs which take a curved symmetrical design, with fine beaded and textured detailing. The chairs have white velvet cushioned seats.
The origin of this style of elegant and light, yet solid, chair came from the small Italian town of Chiavari, near Genova. The first of these chairs- which became instantly popular- were designed by Gaetano Descalzi (Italian, 1767-1855) in 1807, and were crafted from cherrywood. The design has endured and Chiavari style chairs have continued to be produced in different materials throughout the 19th and 20th Centuries, taking after the originals by Descalzi.
