Description

The ormolu candelabra in this set of four are superb examples of nineteenth-century Neoclassicism. Each candelabrum features a tapering fluted shaft, which is supported by grasping acanthus leaves and a narrow waist atop three scrolling foliate feet. The feet of each candelabrum are raised on a stepped curved-sided triangular plinth, which is moulded with an egg-and-dart frieze. The shaft of each culminates in a foliate capital, and each capital issues six light branches: one central branch and five scrolling side branches, with each branch deftly moulded with flowing, scrolling foliate forms.

The bronzes are marked for Henri Picard.
