Antique marble, ormolu and jasperware four-light chandelier
£9,500
This white marble chandelier is designed in an elegant Louis XVI style and is decorated with lustrous golden ormolu mounts and pale blue jasperware plaques.
The chandelier features a white marble top canopy which is decorated with a crown of ormolu (gilt bronze) feathers and an ormolu grape-form drop finial. The top canopy is linked to the body of the chandelier by two ormolu supports which are cast to look like tasselled pieces of drapery.
The chandelier’s white marble body takes the form of a classical urn which is covered by a pointed lid, topped by an ormolu pineapple finial. The body of the chandelier is mounted with four fluted ormolu arms which are decorated with stylised acanthus leaves and scrolling vines. The arms terminate in drip-pans and candle-holders fitted with white candle tubes. The upper body of the chandelier is decorated with two oval jasperware plaques which are set within beaded ormolu frames fringed with bell motifs and topped by ribbon bows. Ormolu laurel leaf swags are draped between the jasperware plaques and ormolu arms. The chandelier’s tapered lower body is fluted and the fillets are decorated with ormolu husk trails and grape vines. The base of the chandelier is encircled by an ormolu stiff leaf-band and mounted with a grape-form drop finial.
