Buccellati, Mario (Italian, 1891-1965)

Mario Buccellati was a famed Italian goldsmith and jeweller working in the first half of the 20th Century. He began by specialising in gold and silver jewellery and objets d'art and later his business became famed for its watches and timepieces. Originally based in Milan, once successful Buccellati opened stores and workshops in Florence, Rome, and eventually in New York and Palm Beach in Florida. Perhaps his most famous work was a silver icon produced to commemorate the visit of Princess Margaret of England to the Vatican City.

After Buccellati's death in 1965 his business passed to his sons, and the company still operates today under the name Buccellati.
