Soulacroix, Frédéric (French/Italian, 1858-1933)

Frédéric Soulacroix (1858-1933) was an Academic style French and Italian painter, who flourished in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.

The son of the son of the sculptor and artist Charles Joseph Frédéric Soulacroix (1825-1899), Frédéric the younger was born and brought up in France. However, in 1873 the young artist moved to Florence to study at the Accademia di Belle Arte, and then later at the Scuola di Pittura in 1876. Soulacroix is particularly well known for his colourful interior scenes, which depict very fine quality decorative objects and fabrics to an extremely impressive degree of naturalism, as well as his depictions of fashionable young women; both allowed him to showcase his detailed artistic style.

By the early 20th Century, Soulacroix's paintings were being collected around the world by very important collectors, which was helped by the fact that he socialised with the high society in Rome and Florence.

Today, Soulacroix's stunning paintings remain in prestigious private collections, museums and galleries around the world, and he is regarded as one of the best 19th Century Italian interior painters.
