Bellanger, Camille Felix (French, 1853-1923)

Camille Felix Bellanger (1853-1923) was a preeminent French painter and lithographer.

Bellanger studied at the l’École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under the direction of Alexandre Cabanel (1823-1889) and William Bouguereau (1825-1905). In 1874, at the young age of 21, Bellanger won the second prize at the Rome exhibition. After this success, Bellanger regularly exhibited his works at prestigious exhibitions across the world, including the famous Paris Salon.

Bellanger gained a reputation for producing works of exceptional quality, depicting both historical and mythological subject matter, as well as portraits and rural quotidian scenes. Today, Bellanger’s works are held in important collections across the world, including that of the Louvre and the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
