Bauhaus Movement

The Bauhaus style originates from a German art school of the same name, which operated from 1919 until the rule of Adolf Hitler in 1933. The Bauhaus school existed in three different German cities – Berlin, Weimar and Dessau – and flourished in each as a hub of intellectual creativity and innovative design. The Bauhaus style was influenced by modernism, and focused on a minimal, sleek approach to interior and exterior design. After the school’s closure, the Bauhaus style continued to have a huge influence on 20th Century European design, and indeed still does in the present day.
