Arts & Crafts Movement

The Arts and Crafts period of design was an international movement in the decorative and fine arts. The style originated in Britain in the early 19th Century, and ended in Europe in the early 20th Century, lasting for a total period of approximately one hundred years. The movement held a strong influence on European art for much of the early 20th Century. The Arts and Crafts movement advocated for the use of traditional craftsmanship and simple forms of design. It incorporated and played upon a range of existing styles, including influences from the Medieval, Romantic and folk decorative tradition. In England, William Morris was one of the most famous proponents of the movement.
